Welcome to the New Victory Scottish Festival!

Welcome to the New Victory Scottish Festival – a seven-week celebration of the theatrical productions created for young people by some of Scotland’s most gifted artists. These four shows feature familiar stories, always with a twist – gloriously brought to life in our theaters for audiences of every age.

Over the past few years, I’ve seen dozens of shows in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the Imaginate Festival, the UK’s largest performing arts festival for children and young people. Much of this innovative work is perfect for New Victory kids and families, and we are thrilled to share some of these gems with you now. The productions chosen for the New Victory Scottish Festival include a broad and exciting array of theatrical forms including puppetry, storytelling and “promenade” theater.
We’re delighted to be presenting these shows in The Duke on 42nd Street theater; an intimate New 42nd Street Studio; and for the promenade theater production, a magically transformed New Victory.

The New Victory has an established reputation for taking artistic risks and embracing innovation. The Scottish Festival reflects the chief aspiration of The New Victory Theater and The New 42nd Street: to introduce theater that never panders, is sometimes risky, is frequently challenging, and is always of the highest artistic merit.

We warmly welcome all of the Scottish artists who are participating in the Festival and hope that as a result of this collaboration, there will be more opportunities for international cultural exchange in the years to come.

Cheers!

The New Victory Theater, a project of The New 42nd Street and New York City’s first and only full-time performing arts theater for kids and their families and classmates, presents a range of professional productions at affordable ticket prices (regular season prices range from $12.50-$35 and Member tickets are only $8.75-$24.50). In addition, it also offers daytime school performances ($2 per student), family workshops and jobs to high school and college students. Interactive Lobby Activities, FYIs (performance-related exhibits) and Talk-backs with the artists are offered in conjunction with select performances throughout the season. The New Victory Theater sparked the subsequent revitalization of 42nd Street when it opened its doors in December 1995.

The New Victory Theater is supported, in part, with public funds from the National Endowment for the Arts; New York State Council on the Arts, a State agency; and from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council.  The New Vic Council, Friends of The New Victory and the Theater’s dedicated patrons, corporate and foundation donors, also provide essential contributions, helping to make possible programming of the highest quality.
